Fall is the time to slow down and document your family photos. Right before fall turned to winter, I met with this darling family of three. Harrison Hollow was the perfect setting at the base of the Boise Foothills.

TIPS FOR YOUR HARRISON HOLLOW BOISE FAMILY PHOTOS

“The Hollow” as my family calls it, Is a place we go almost every weekend. It’s a ritual to stop by DK Donuts for a dozen on our way with our dog for a quick family hike. Here are some quick notes to make your session there successful:

  • The Hollow is an city off-leash dog trail. This is perfect for your if you want to bring your dog for your session! But not so perfect, if your little ones are afraid of dogs so keep that in mind.
  • It’s close to downtown Boise so arrive a bit early as you don’t want to miss the light your photos need! The parking lot has ~20 spaces and can fill up quickly. People come and go frequently but you still might have to wait for a spot to open up or park on the street. Coordinate with your photographer on timing.
  • My favorite spot to take families is through the entrance at the far end of the parking lot. That trail leads to the wooded area avoiding most of the foot traffic at the main entrance. You can also walk up the trail a bit at take some cute family photos with Boise in the background!
  • It’s lovely for photos in all seasons although I would avoid early spring or winter. In summer, you’ll find native Boise wildflowers in bloom and the sagebrush is on point with a muted green tone. Fall has stunning light and the foliage is still lovely. But if it’s not snowing, the rest of year can look a bit blah. That’s definitely not what we want for your family photos!

If you’re looking for one of the best Boise family photographers around, we’d love to give you a great experience. Inquire here or peruse more our work on the blog.
